Ahead of the start of the popular St Nicholas Fair, City of York Council have installed new metal barriers in Parliament Street and other major streets in the city centre.

Thousands of tourists visit the Christmas Fair, and the Council says there will be a new layout to reduce crowds and traffic, as well as reducing the number of chalets in Parliament Street.  The barriers will be in full use when the market opens, and stewards will be present to help keep shoppers and traders safe.

St Nicholas Fair runs from 18 November – 23 December.
