Fire fighting crews were at York Minster on Tuesday testing out a new aerial ladder. The new ladder is based at Harrogate and can go 15 metres higher than the York based one.

North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue have said this platform will be used if there was another fire at York Minster as well as on house fires.  Another fire engine will be able to pipe water up the side of the longer ladder providing a really powerful spray of water.  The test was prompted after last week’s incident when a man climbed onto the Minster roof, but was brought down after police negotiations.
