Over 60 cases of bird flu have been confirmed in the UK with 12 infected premises in North Yorkshire. Urgent biosecurity measures have been put in place to help mitigate the disease and anyone who keeps chickens, ducks, geese, or other birds is legally required to keep them indoors or you could be fined.
It is vital not to allow wild migratory birds to mix with your birds so they must be kept indoors. To stop the spread of the disease people should wash their hands and change or clean and disinfect footwear as it can be spread through your clothes.
There is very low risk to public health and it is safe to consume poultry or eggs.
