A University of York professor has been awarded an MBE for services to Atmospheric Chemistry in the New Year’s Honours list.

Professor Lucy Carpenter investigates the complex interaction between the oceans and the atmosphere. She is also the co-founder of an atmospheric observatory on the Cape Verde islands in the Atlantic where she leads a long-term monitoring programme.

Among other achievements, Professor Carpenter’s research discoveries have led to public and policy debate on the potential of using natural processes to reduce air pollution.
