St Saviourgate, Unitarian Church Photograph: Gabrielle Laycock

The Unitarian Church will be celebrating with its congregation to mark its 350th anniversary and will be open to all on 29th and 30th January for Residents Weekend.

In 1689 an Act of Toleration allowed religious dissenters to legally gather. Lady Hewley assisted York’s Protestant dissenters to purchase land in St Saviourgate and build a chapel.  The chapel is a grade 2 listed building listed by Historic England.
