With the fallout of lockdown, and all the disruptions brought by the Coronavirus, many businesses are facing restrictions, difficulties and closures.
But even through the height of lockdown, Master Chef Matt Healy’s Grön Kafés continued to grow.
After opening their latest venture (the third Grön Kafé) in Harrogate with an additional evening concept, the team have now brought their successful after-dark menu to York and Leeds.
Grön are turning their ‘Keep it Clean’ mantra on its head with MörkGrön (dark green in Swedish), a vegan food revolution. From avocado toast and oat milk flat whites in the daytime, to a dirty vegan junk food takeover by night.
– Launches in York 25/09/20
– Friday and Saturday nights will see Grön ‘revolting with food’
– Expect black buns, bold sauces, and plant-based tastes to get stuck into
– Custom cocktail creations include the Grönita and popular NeGroni
The menu, curated by Matt Healy and Grön Exec Chef Natalie Firth, consists of stacked burgers, hot dogs fit to burst, and the ultimate comfort food; mac and cheese!
But the whole menu will be tailored to plant based tastes, so whether you’re strictly vegan, flexitarian, or just a curious carnivore, you can get stuck in.
Matt Healy had this to say of the new launch: “After opening our third Grön, we’ve decided to launch something a little different. Mörk Grön (Dark Green) is for everyone. Trust me when I say you won’t miss the meat. It’s exactly what you want, especially when you’ve had a few cocktails, beers or glasses of wine”.
Grön have teamed up with Meatless Farm to create their vegan friendly burgers and hot dogs. They feature in dishes such as The Revolt Burger, and The Not Dog.
Matt said: “We’re revolting with food. Vegan options don’t need to be boring. So put down the broccoli and pick up a dirty bacon cheeseburger with CBD mayo! We’re working closely with Meatless Farm who are a real forward thinking brand, that share our plant based tastes and beliefs”
But the new additions don’t stop there, as the in-house drinks expert Aleks Szafrański has been very busy!
Highlights from the new cocktail menu include the Grönita, a twist on the classic Margarita featuring Gröns iconic green juice, the Gröntox, and a vegan take on the Clover Club, made with an egg white alternative to recreate the classic foam.
The NeGroni is not to be missed either, with a twist of orange completely transforming the drink. September has also seen the return of their unbelievably vegan and Gluten Free pancake stacks, along with a full autumnal menu of Scandi-inspired brunch dishes.
Opening another site and extending the opening hours of the existing sites in the current climate sounds like a challenge, but Matt and his team have taken it in their stride.
Matt said: “It was great to get the existing Grön team back from furlough early on in lockdown, and to be able to keep creating new jobs and opportunities in a time like this has just been brilliant.”
