A leading children’s author has thrown his support behind this year’s Bloodaxe Book Challenge, the annual initiative from The JORVIK Group and York Libraries aimed at encouraging children to read more.
Paul Tillery IV, author of the Thundercluck: Chicken of Thor!” books has recorded a special message for participants, and will be hosting a live online Q&A session in February 2021 for those who have completed the challenge of reading four books between the launch day – Saturday 24 October 2020 – and 9 January 2021.
Everyone signing up for the challenge will receive a bookmark, and a sticker for each of the books that they read before the closing date of 9 January. Those reading four books will be deemed to have completed the challenge, and get a certificate and an extra bonus sticker!
“Reading is so important for children of all ages, so it is always a pleasure to work with Explore York Libraries on this initiative. We’re so pleased to have Paul Tillery on board this year – I am sure his Thundercluck books will have York’s young readers laughing out loud at the antics of Thor’s superpowered chicken, whilst also learning a little about Norse mythology!” comments Dr Chris Tuckley, head of interpretation for The JORVIK Group.
This year is the ninth year of the challenge, and children can sign up at any of York’s libraries. Everyone successfully finishing at least four books will receive a certificate, and the chance to join Paul’s online Q&A in February.
Copies of Paul’s Thundercluck! books will be available from the JORVIK Viking Centre gift shop, with book plates signed by the author due to arrive in mid-November, making them a perfect Christmas gift!
