York City Archive re-opens and libraries extend their opening hours

From Monday 5 October larger libraries at Acomb, Clifton, Tang Hall and York city centre will be open again on Mondays which means residents can now visit a library 6 days a week. The City Archive also re-opens this week from Wednesday 7 October. Explore’s reading cafes in the libraries, at Hungate, and at Rowntree and Homestead Parks are open as normal.

Libraries are now all open for drop-in and browsing the books – there’s no need to make an appointment. Opening hours are still shorter with all libraries closing by 5pm for the time being. To visit the Archives and Local History rooms pre-booking is essential and can be made through Explore’s website www.exploreyork.org.uk.

Explore staff have made two films to show people what to expect when visiting the library or the Archive.
