Heady Conduct Theatre bring their critically acclaimed storytelling show of rejuvenated Greek myths and legends to AT THE MILL, Stillington
Heady Conduct Theatre bring their critically acclaimed storytelling show of rejuvenated Greek myths and legends to AT THE MILL, Stillington. The last time the show was performed was pre-pandemic on the other side of the world in New Zealand, where the production was described as “spellbinding” and awarded Critics’ Choice in the national newspaper.
Simon plays Tiresias from numerous Greek myths and legends. Struck blind, he is given the gift to predict the future by Zeus. The blind prophet is also the first person to be transformed from a man into a woman. In his 600 years of life, Tiresias has incredible encounters with royalty, rejects, heroes, murderers and a snake-wrangling baby. The world in which Tiresias inhabits is conjured up for the audience to witness and they are asked the question; "Are you sure you want to know your future?" Rachel Barnes accompanies the performance with singing and an exquisite live score, playing the guitar and cello.
Heady Conduct make intoxicating theatre about the extraordinary ability of humans to face adversity – often with mischief, humour and rebellion.
Simon Rodda, Co-Artistic Director of Heady Conduct and performer said: “I can’t wait to perform these ancient stories in this beautiful, hand-crafted hidden gem of a theatre venue! The stories surrounding Tiresias’ life offer a unique and unrivalled perspective. Myself and my Co-AD, Beck, are neurodiverse and are advocates for those who view the world differently. To enhance the storytelling experience for the audience, we use language, live music, physical movement and sensory atmospheres to tell Tiresias’ tale.”
Tiresias will be toured around the four corners of England from Brighton to Penzance to Suffolk, St Albans with closing night AT THE MILL in Yorkshire.
