The Rosedale Chimney Bank Hill Climb, sponsored by Big Bear Bikes, is set to take place on Sunday 13 October.
Known as ‘the chain breaker’, Chimney Bank in the North York Moors National Park is arguably the most famous cycling climb in Britain, with a 33% maximum gradient.
Inspired by local cycling legend Edgar Milner, who made history in 1912 as the first person to ascend the notorious Rosedale Chimney Bank on a push bike, Big Bear Bikes in Pickering generously ‘adopted’ Edgar’s medal as part of Ryedale Folk Museum 60th anniversary appeal. Now, Ryedale Velo Club are launching the Rosedale Chimney Bank Hill Climb event, with all proceeds going to the Ryedale Folk Museum, Ryedale Special Families (RSF), and the Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team.
Chimney Bank is an iconic climb that features on many cyclists’ bucket list and has been used in major cycling events and the National Hill Climb Championship. It is a true test of a cyclist's climbing power and endurance.
