YSJ Communities Centre | New Service Launch: Creative Literacies Hub

York St John Communities Centre has introduced a new free service supporting arents, carers adn their children - the Creative Literacies Hub

This initiative is designed to help develop effective reading and creative writing skills within a comfortable and welcoming environment. 

The Creative Literacies Hub offers two enriching programmes, and parents/carers are able to sign up to both:

Supporting Reading at Home

This programme is open to parents, caregivers, and children aged 5 to 11. Participants will learn techniques to assist their children in reading a diverse selection of texts. The first two sessions are for parents and caregivers, and children will join the remaining four sessions for interactive reading activities.

  • 2024 Workshop Dates: 22 October, 5 November, 12 November, 19 November, 26 November and 3 December.

Creative Writing Together

This programme is designed for parents, caregivers, and children aged 7 to 14. Participants will engage in collaborative creative writing sessions, exploring various settings, characters, and plots, and experimenting with different perspectives within their story universe.

  • 2025 Workshop Dates: 7 January, 14 January, 21 January, 28 January, 4 February and 11 February.

How to Enrol

If anyone is interested in joining the Creative Literacies Hub, they can self-refer by completing our online self-referral form (https://yorksj.solvefit.co.uk/csr/). When completing the form, please ensure they state the age of their child and specify which programme(s) they wish to enrol in.
