The highly anticipated York Walking Festival returns this year, running from Saturday, 14th September to Sunday, 22nd September 2024.

This festival is a fantastic opportunity for locals and visitors alike to explore the scenic beauty of York, engage in healthy outdoor activities, and discover some of the city’s hidden gems through a variety of group walks.

One of the main highlights of the York Walking Festival is its diverse selection of group walks, which cater to all fitness levels and interests. The festival timetable features an array of walking experiences designed to appeal to nature lovers, wildlife enthusiasts, and history buffs. Whether you prefer a light stroll or a more challenging route, there is something for everyone.

Some of the walks included in the festival are:

  • Bat Walk: A unique opportunity to explore York’s nocturnal wildlife.

  • Bird Watching: Discover the wide variety of bird species that call York home.

  • Countryside Walk: Take in the serene beauty of York’s surrounding countryside.

  • Foraging Walk at Rowntree Park: Learn about edible plants and the art of foraging in this scenic park.

  • River Foss Wildlife and History Walk: A guided exploration along the River Foss, highlighting its natural beauty and historical significance.

For a full schedule of walks, check out the official York Walking Festival timetable.

In addition to the group walks, the festival offers an extra incentive for participants through the BetterPoints app. By downloading the app, attendees can earn points for walking or wheeling activities, which can be redeemed for York Gift Cards or other vouchers.

Many participants have already redeemed their points for a variety of prizes, and this year’s festival promises even more opportunities to do the same. For full details on how to earn and redeem points, visit the BetterPoints York Walking Festival page
