8 year old Ukrainian refugee beats York’s International Chess Master

Maksym Kryshtafor, who is living in York with his mother after fleeing the war, is Ukraines under 8 chess champion and is now one of York’s 20 best junior players.

Maksym Kryshtafor, who is living in York with his mother after fleeing the war, is Ukraines under 8 chess champion and is now one of York’s 20 best junior players.

His skill at chess was proved when he beat Richard Palliser from York, who is International Chess Master, in a special match organised by Ben Rich.

Ben who is responsible for junior chess in York said “After a few years in which junior chess in York was relatively moribund, thanks to the new weekly chess club, we are once again on the up, and becoming a real Yorkshire powerhouse.”
