After a four month trial, the Council are continuing the low fares for 5 - 18 year olds.
City of York Council has launched its “Better By Bus” campaign in time for this February half term. From 1st February and for the remainder of 2024, those between 5 and 18 years old will pay no more than £1 for a single fare when travelling unaccompanied by an adult within the City of York boundary.
Following a 4 month trial, the council have decided to extend the measures to support local families and continue encouraging the use of sustainable transport. Since the trial, the age range has been extended from up to 16 year olds to 18 year olds; the council say the reductions are being paid for by the city’s government funded Bus Service Improvement Plan which will run until the end of March 2025, aiming to leave the city with high-quality bus services.
