Yesterday saw the 40th edition of the Brass Monkey Road Race.
The half marathon, which has become a favourite among York runners, has been held annually ever since winter 1983.
The race was organised by Knavesmire Harriers and has attracted just under 2000 runners from across Britain, even drawing in runners from the Isle of Skye.
The race starter was none other than Brian Hughes, who founded the race all those years ago, when a group of Knavesmire Harriers wanted to take part in another race, while training for the London Marathon.
