The election will take place on Thursday 28 November with polling hours between 7am and 10pm, and with the count taking place at the close of poll.

The statement of persons nominated for election for the Haxby and Wigginton by-election has been published today, Friday 1 November 2024. The details of who is standing are available at www.york.gov.uk/elections-1/haxby-wigginton-election-october-2024.   

Residents who are not currently registered to vote are encouraged to register online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote or call 01904 551007. All applications must be made by midnight on Tuesday 12 November.

Eligible residents can vote in one of three ways:

In person, at your polling station: you are required to take photographic identification - see below for more information.
By post: completed applications for a postal vote must be received by the council by 5pm on Wednesday 13 November. You can apply online at  www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote, download from www.gov.uk/government/publications/apply-for-a-postal-vote or call 01904 551007 
By proxy (someone votes on your behalf): completed applications for a proxy vote must be received by 5pm on Wednesday 20 November. You can apply online at www.gov.uk/apply-proxy-vote, download a form at www.gov.uk/government/collections/proxy-voting-application-forms or call 01904 551007. Emergency proxy applications can be made in certain, specific circumstances at West Offices, Station Rise, up until 5pm on Thursday 28 November.
The full list of accepted forms of photo ID can be found at www.gov.uk/how-to-vote/photo-id-youll-need. Please note that student cards are not among the accepted ID.

If you do not have an accepted form of photo ID, you no longer look like the photo on your ID or the name on your photo ID is different to your name on the electoral register, you can apply for a free voter authority certificate online at www.gov.uk/apply-for-photo-id-voter-authority-certificate. Applications must be received by 5pm on Wednesday 20 November.
