City of York council’s Garden Waste Subscription Scheme will still be launched this summer, but in August not July.
The main launch has been delayed from 22 July, to allow some customers to help the council iron out any glitches as part of a "soft launch".
The decision to charge to collect garden waste was made in January this year and will see York joining 70% of local authorities already charging for kerbside garden waste collections. City of York Council are continuing to test the new system, to ensure it's easy to use.
The scheme is set to see those who subscribe charged £46.50-a-year for kerbside garden waste collections.
The council estimates it could generate as much as £1.7m per year.
Including the cost of disposal garden waste collection costs around £1.87m-a-year.
By having a low key launch the council hopes to identify any improvements and ensure that the process is straight forward and works effectively when it is launched citywide this summer.
For those that are eligible for the Garden Waste Subscription services an information pack will be delivered by post in July.
