City of York Council is “open to conversations” about reintroducing beavers to the River Ouse.
The idea follows a series of serious floods in York this autumn and winter, which have seen up to six flood warnings in place in the city.
Councillors are set to approve a £5.3m flood alleviation scheme, but the council’s flooding team is also open to considering measures including reintroducing beavers.
