Climate protests outside York City Council offices

Protests against the £65 million dualling scheme for the A1237 took place yesterday afternoon.

Climate activists took to the streets outside council offices yesterday afternoon in protest against the proposed £65 million dualling scheme for the A1237 York outer ring road. Protestors included members from Extinction Rebellion, York Green Party, York Environment Forum and York Cycle Campaign.

The scheme aims to improve York’s highway network by reducing congestion and enhancing pedestrian and cycle access. Tom Franklin from York Greens said the plans would not solve the problem and only create “huge emissions” in the building process and result in even more traffic once finished.
