A mini community orchard has opened in York, for local people and allotment-holders, on the same site one stood 100 years ago. The neglected former plot, located near the entrance to its site in Ashton Lane, has been developed by Holgate Allotment Association.
There’s a wildflower area, seven young apple trees, a community bench, and raised planters. The orchard was opened on Saturday during a community event, which included live folk music, cake, and refreshments.
