Conman steals war veterans’ life savings and commemorative war medal

Vincent Joseph Morgan of St Leonards Close, Malton was jailed for 15 months at York Crown Court after pleading guilty to stealing £4,240 from Mr Raymond Whitwell, a 103-year-old war veteran.

Vincent Joseph Morgan of St Leonards Close, Malton was jailed for 15 months at York Crown Court after pleading guilty to stealing £4,240 from Mr Raymond Whitwell, a 103-year-old war veteran.

Police discovered that, Morgan who has been doing gardening jobs had also stolen a commemorative war medal which was found at his house. For the prosecution, Marte Alnaes said “The defendant clearly abused a position of trust and deliberately targeted the victim on the basis of his vulnerability”

Judge, Stephen Ashurst said he was pleased to hear that the bank had refunded the money so that Mr Whitwell was not out of pocket.
