Dame Judi Dench backs the lifting of blue badge ban in the city centre

Dame Judi Dench has given her 'wholehearted support' to blue badge campaigners in York

Dame Judi Dench has given her 'wholehearted support' to campaigners that are calling for the ban on blue badge parking in the city centre to be lifted.

In November 2021, councillors voted unanimously to permanently ban disabled parking in pedestrianised areas of the city, to allow anti-terror defences to be installed.

Those affected by the decision shared their anger, saying they were made to feel like ‘second-class citizens’.

The Oscar winning actress, 88, was born in the Heworth area of York and said: ‘York city centre is a rare jewel that should be free for all to enjoy and should be fully accessible through these types of schemes.’

The Reverse The Ban group have said that Dame Judi’s support has been ‘a great-boost’ to their campaign and they hope to see a change come from her support.
