POST OFFICE WARNING CUSTOMERS OF LOOMING JANUARY CLOSING DATE TO ACCESS £17 MILLION IN UNCLAIMED ENERGY BILL SUPPORT
As households battle the rising energy costs, the Post Office is issuing an urgent warning to households who use a pre-payment meter to ensure that they access the tailored Government support available to them.
In line with the Government’s energy support announcement in April 2022, the Energy Bill Support Scheme (EBSS) is the £400 energy discount to all households in England, Scotland, and Wales, paid over six months in instalments consisting of £66.
EBSS vouchers are the only way that people with a prepaid meter (topped up with electricity keys or gas cards) can receive the £400 discount to help with energy bills this winter.
Post Office branches have already processed nearly three million EBSS vouchers to help people access the financial support available – aiding the delivery of £190m of energy vouchers to prepayment customers to help with the rising cost of living.
Prepayment meter customers of British Gas, EDF, E.ON, E.ON Next, Good Energy and Bulb should have received a voucher through the post or email which they can claim for energy credit at any Post Office branch.
£17m remains unclaimed from October’s support, with the looming deadline of January 14th as the last possible day for people to access this help before it expires. Customers are being urged to check the date on their voucher, as they are valid for 90 days from issue, meaning that in some cases vouchers will have already expired or are about to. In total, over £64m of EBSS payments are still waiting to be claimed through the Post Office.
To activate the support, customers just need to bring their voucher, their top-up key or card and proof of address with them to any Post Office branch to claim the credit and can claim more than one voucher at a time, providing that there is space on their energy meter.
