Councillor Claire Douglas demands a 'fair deal' for York.
Ahead of tomorrow’s Autumn Statement, leader of York City Council Claire Douglas sent an open letter to the Chancellor of the Exquecher Jeremy Hunt, pushing for fair funding for the city.
In real terms, York has seen a 66 per cent reduction in funding under the Conservative government, “pushing council finances to the brink”, Douglas says, writing that York’s public services are the lowest funded in the country for upper-tier councils, as estimated by the Institute for Fiscal Studies in August this year.
