Snooker players and fans had to be evacuated from York Barbican as the UK Snooker Championship was delayed when a fire broke out. World Snooker Tour confirmed that the Fire Brigade identified a small fire in the reception of the York Barbican.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said they were called at 6.55 pm and said that they had located an overheating ventilation fan.
After a delay of about an hour, during which players used the warmth of a nearby pub, play in the matches was resumed when the building had been judged as safe for fans and players returned.
