Ghost after dark at York Museum Gardens

Friday, 4 October 2024 13:40

By Barbara Constable

The York BID and York Museums Trust are today revealing further details about the first ever Ghosts After Dark at York Museum Gardens.

This year, the York BID's Ghosts in the Gardens has grown to include this exciting event, showcasing York's rich tapestry of historical figures, with light, sound, and storytellers in York Museum Gardens, for four nights only.

Ticketholders will get the exclusive chance to explore York Museum Gardens like never before, by choosing their own path to explore 46 ghostly sculptures, hidden around the gardens and dynamically lit against an atmospheric background of smoke and sound.

The exclusive event runs from 7th -10 th November, with tickets now available from the York Museums Trust website. Tickets are £7.50 for adults and just £l for under-16's.

Ghosts After Dark will feature an exclusive new ghost sculpture — a Medieval pig, celebrating the city's history that can still be felt today. The sculpture is a homage to York's Finkle Street, which was once referred to as Mucky Pig Lane, as it was used as a through passage to move pigs to Thursday Market, held in St Sampson's Square, and the Swinegate Markets.

Ghosts After Dark will feature something for everyone, with six of York's most exciting storytellers sharing a mix of much-loved classics and previously unheard stories;

Mad Alice of the Bloody Tour of York

For lovers of all things gruesome, Mad Alice will share the grisly truth about the Archbishop, Executioner, Bear, and Stone Mason at the Ruins.

Lady Brigante of the Polite Tourist

Uncover the criminal past and hidden histories of the Victorian Lady and Gentleman, Artist, and Merchant at the Hideaway.

The Wild Man of the Woods

Explore the lore around the cat, fox, pig, and falcon, in the Woodland Clearing.

The York Dungeon's Dick Turpin

Recounting how he met his infamous end at Palmer's Corner while the Dungeon's Guy Fawkes will share his ill-fated past at The Plot.

Dr Dorian Deathly of the Deathly Dark Tours

For those brave enough, Dorian will lead visitors on a lantern lit tour of St Olave's Church, sharing a ghost story made exclusively for Ghosts After Dark.

For those who can't wait until November for their ghostly fix, the York BID's Ghosts in the Gardens is live until 5th November. This year's display is bigger and better than ever, with 45 ghosts to discover in some of the city's beautiful public gardens and green spaces.
