George Sawyer was crossing the carriageway near Bilbrough Top, between York and Tadcaster when he was involved in a collision shortly before 1:20 am on Monday 27th March.
The inquest heard that George was walking along the A64 when he was struck by a motor vehicle which caused fatal injuries.
George attended Askham Bryan College and following the tragic accident the college opened a book of condolence and flew its flag at half-mast.
