North Yorkshire Police arrested a man last week on suspicion of burglary after businesses were broken into in York.

The five burglaries took place on Gillygate between 22 February and 5 March – three at Love Cheese on 25 February, 27 February and 5 March, and two at Caesars on 22 February and 1 March.

A 34-year-old man was arrested on 5 March on suspicion of burglary and has been released on bail whilst enquiries continue.

Police Staff Investigator Robert Oliver of our City & York Investigation Hub, said: “No one should have to arrive at their place of work and discover their business has been broken in to.

“I would like to reassure the business owners of Gillygate and its surrounding areas that we’re investigating the break-ins thoroughly and will do everything we can to bring those responsible to justice.”

Enquiries are ongoing.
