Operators of York Train Station have apologised after a record rate of train cancellations in recent weeks.

Operators of York Train Station have apologised after a record rate of train cancellations in recent weeks.

A staggering 8% of all train services in the UK had been cancelled during a four-week period up to 7th January.

This data comes from the Office of Rail and Road, who said that 53% of all cancellations were the fault of the operators.

Sickness and the recent rail strikes were the reasons that operators gave for the disruptions to railway travel, with Avanti West Coast making the bulk of cancellations at 18.9%.
