Part of York’s historic walls have been closed to the public as of yesterday. The city walls will shut on weekdays between Micklegate Bar and Station Rise until Friday 28 June. However, they will stay open through that time at weekends. City of York Council say that this is to allow for the construction of a new retaining wall and rampart, following the removal of Queens Street Bridge. They have also said that access gates will be locked, and signs informing of the closure and how to rejoin the wall walk will be in place.
