It has been revealed that there are rising concerns of insufficient staffing in the maternity unit at York Hospital.
Worryingly, the maternity ward was closed to women in labour an astonishing 14 times in August alone, a significant increase in comparison to previous months.
The most common causes for the closures were inadequate midwifery staffing and lack of bed space.
Just last year, a concerned staff member reported that some midwives had been working shifts of almost 24 hours a day.
To combat this, two wards have been merged in York so that more staff are available.
