With the nominations for York and North Yorkshire Mayoral election closing last Friday, the six candidates for the 2024 election are official, including from the Green Party and two independent candidates:

Keane Duncan - The Conservative Party
Kevin Foster- The Green Party

It will be the first time York and the North Yorkshire region will have a mayoral election after a devolution deal was agreed between the City of York Council, the former North Yorkshire County Council and the government in 2022. The deal will result in over £750 million in funding for the devolved combined authority from the government over the next 30 years. The new mayor will act as a figurehead for the region with an annual budget of £18 million to spend on areas including public transport, housing, land development and adult education.
The election will take place on 2 May with polling stations open from 7am to 10pm. Voters will need a photographic ID in order to vote. Those without a suitable ID can apply for a free voter authority certificate up until 5pm on 24 April.
