A group of people slept outdoors last week in the cold and wet of a church garden to raise awareness of the problems faced by homeless people. The group were also raising money for two charities which help the homeless with breakfast and support in finding accommodation.
Members of the group that slept on the grounds of the Methodist Church in Acomb said they were cold, uncomfortable, damp and ached as they woke from a night of terrible sleep.
They said they had sleeping bags, a tent and other equipment that was not available to everyone who sleeps on the streets, but the experience had shown them what life is like for the homeless.
