A loud bang was heard over York yesterday morning. The Royal Air Force has confirmed that the bang was a sonic boom caused by fighter jets breaking the sound barrier. Just before midday, RAF Typhoon fighter jets were scrambled to intercept an unidentified aircraft.
The unidentified aircraft was a civilian plane that had lost communication which meant it couldn’t be identified. Communications were re-established with the aircraft which was then intercepted and safely escorted to Manchester.
