The ‘Coffee Morning’ that turned into York’s Biggest Support Network for Parents - York Mumbler is 10 years old tomorrow!

York’s Biggest Parenting Information Hub & Support Network will be 10 years old on Friday 22nd July 2022 and they are having a picnic party in the park to celebrate! 

York’s Biggest Parenting Information Hub & Support Network will be 10 years old on Friday 22^nd July 2022 and they are having a picnic party in the park to celebrate! 

Most parents in York now use York Mumbler in some way – whether that is the information website with around 35,000 hits every month, being a member of the Facebook group of over 20,000 parents, following York Mumbler on the many social media channels or attending one of the regular Mumblerhood events. Parents regularly feedback that York Mumbler is a ‘Lifeline’ and they don’t know what they’d do without it. 

In fact, in a recent survey conducted by the students at University of York, when asked ‘where do you go to for your parenting information’ a huge 92% of respondents replied, unprompted, that York Mumbler was their source of parenting information. 

The Beginning

York Mumbler is all about making life easier for parents in York by connecting people and providing information to all. That is something that founder, Emily Pickard, is passionate about. 

“I started Mumbler when I was pregnant with my eldest daughter back in 2012. I love connecting with others so I wanted to get to know other parents who had babies at the time. It was only supposed to be a casual coffee morning.. I never imagined it would become as huge as it is today, but I love that it has!”  

Emily is a self confessed ‘list addict’ which is where the popular York Mumbler website comes in… 

 “ Back when we started – it was really hard to find out the best information for parents without trawling around and looking on notice boards or checking multiple websites – which were often incomplete or out of date. I wanted to bring everything together and share this great wealth of information – to save time for every parent! Our Facebook Group with the combined minds of over 20,000 local parents is the best source of knowledge – We just bring this great information together in an organised way on our website."

Mumbler today

Emily still considers Mumbler her hobby as well as her full time job – and now has a team of people who help her to put together the brilliant blogs on the website as well as responding to the many enquiries that Mumbler receives daily. Volunteers also help her by being admins on the facebook group. “I’m so grateful for team Mumbler – I love that they share my passion for helping the parents of York and getting the right information out to everyone. I don’t know what I’d do without them!”

A Celebration on Saturday 23^rd July 2022.

 I wanted to mark the moment of Mumbler turning 10 so the picnic in the park is an informal event with no booking required, everyone is welcome to turn up on the day at whatever time suits them.  

We’re excited to bring everyone together at Homestead Park on Saturday 23^rd July between 12pm and 4pm for our ‘Picnic in the Park’ 

 Families just come along to the park with their own Picnics and rugs, there will be some face painters, balloons and cake and we can just all have a great start to the summer holidays by connecting and relaxing in this gorgeous space. 

 There will be a chance for Families to write in a Birthday Book to Mumbler if they’d like.  “We’d love to hear how you’ve used Mumbler and what a difference it’s made to you.”  Says Emily.
