Leaders of the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority come together to show support for Wear Red Day.
Wear Red Day was established in 2014 by Show Racism the Red Card, the UK’s leading anti-racism educational charity giving people a way to show their opposition to racism and discrimination in our society.
Last year’s Wear Red Day attracted a record 615,000 participants nationwide, and the charity has ambitions to cross the 1,000,000 mark at the 10th anniversary of the first ever Wear Red Day, today, Friday 18 October.
The event also coincides with Black History Month, during which organisations across the UK are holding events to educate people about the contribution of Black Britons to British life and culture.
The York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority is working alongside our partners to promote the event and emphasise our values of tolerance and inclusivity.
It is a priority for the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority, led by Mayor David Skaith, to create opportunities for all. People, communities, and social value are central to the decisions, actions, and investments we make as an organisation, and in order to uphold these values we must ensure that York and North Yorkshire is a region where residents, visitors and businesses feel safe.
