York's premier live entertainment venue is shortlisted alongside other iconic venues paving the way in the North of England.
The inaugural Nordoff and Robbins Northern Music Awards are taking place on Tuesday 23 April 2024 at Manchester’s iconic Albert Hall. Created to recognise and celebrate the breadth of talent across the North of England, York Barbican has been nominated in the Inspirational Venue of the Year (under 2,000) Sponsored by Skiddle.
Sam Ryder, General Manager of York Barbican said, “It is a fantastic achievement to be nominated alongside these other fabulous venues, and be recognised for bringing a wide range of top-name artists to York along with events that haven’t been in the city before, such as Peter Hook & The Light, Bongo’s Bingo, Swiftogeddon and the World Seniors Darts. And there’s much more to come.”
York Barbican is York’s largest live entertainment venue and is currently Pollstar’s #1 theatre in England. Events this year include Paloma Faith, Feeder, Michael Ball, David Essex, John Bishop, Jools Holland and Lord of the Dance.
In what’s set to be a star-studded night attended by the great and good of the Northern music industry, Liam Fray from indie rock royalty Courteeners will be taking to the stage for a special live acoustic performance, alongside Manchester legend Lisa Stansfield, Warrington’s rising stars The K’s and the up-and-coming Leeds quartet, English Teacher. Spoken word, indie hip hop artist Antony Szmierek, from Hyde, will be opening the awards with a specially commissioned piece about the power of music therapy.
The performance-packed show will help to fundraise for Nordoff and Robbins’ vision to open a dedicated state of the art music therapy centre for Greater Manchester – based in Salford – and will kickstart a new chapter in celebrating the diverse talent of the North of England year after year.
