York is celebrating twenty years as a fair trade city.
Its status as fair trade was confirmed in 2004 thanks to a group of activists.
The city was able to achieve the status of Fair Trade after City of York Council agreed to pass a resolution supporting fair trade principles. The resolution brought Fair Trade tea and coffee to a number of York’s cafes and shops offering fair trade produce.
York’s Fair Trade Forum has marked the anniversary with an exhibition at City Screen, the last day of the event is today March 8.
