York Council is Re-Considering its Blue Badge Policy for the Christmas Market

Sunday, 10 November 2024 15:51

By Joe Flynn

York Council is considering allowing blue badge holders to park in the city centre during its Christmas market, following feedback from disabled residents.

Currently, blue badge access is restricted between 10:30 and 19:00 GMT, but new proposals would allow entry after 17:00.

Director of transport James Gilchrist noted the significant impact of current restrictions on disabled people and affirmed the council's commitment to more accessible plans for future markets.

The council's preferred option is to allow access after 17:00 daily, with a decision set for the market’s opening day.
