York Council want to know where they should plant new trees

Thursday, 16 May 2024 00:05

By Ray Milligan

Nearly two and a half thousand trees have been planted as part of the York city Council's Green Streets commitment to plant four thousand trees.

Local schools, parish councils and other stakeholders, have been working with York City Council and the trees have been planted along Malton Road and at Melrosegate Park, Huntington Environment Park, Carr Infants School, Lakeside Primary Academy, Burton Green Primary and seven other school sites.

The planting has been funded by grants from the White Rose Forest and Forestry Commission and includes money for three years aftercare.

The work is part the City of York Council's Council Plan, 'One City, for all' .

The council hopes to deliver even more trees during the next tree planting season between October 2024 and March 2025, but this is dependent on a number of bids to fund the project.

Ahead of the start of the next phase the council is asking for ideas about where new trees could go, and are inviting anyone including residents, schools, parish and town councils and all type of landowners and managers - to get in touch with their suggestions for the second year of the Green Streets programme.
