York has been named as the most festive city in England in a new study by Hammond’s Furniture.
The research was based on a survey, as well as Christmas Instagram posts, festive lights, events, markets and Met office snow fall data.
It compared a number of Christmassy factors in order to find the ‘ultimate festive day-out destinations’*’. This was then combined and used to rank each city out of a possible 100.
The UK’s most festive towns and cities are:
- Edinburgh – 95%
- York – 84%
- Glasgow – 83%
- Leicester – 80%
- Manchester – 78%
- Lisburn – 75%
- Newcastle – 71%
- Blackpool – 70%
- Oxford – 69%
- Norwich – 67%
The study also found that York residents are full of Christmas cheer and 16% put their decorations up as early as the first week of November.
