Plans to change the name and signage are now in with City of York Council.
The Principal York is set to become The Milner York, after new owners take over lease.
The hotel is being renamed in honour of William Milner, the foreman of York Station, who died after entering a burning building near the sight of the Baedeker Raid on York on 29th April 1942.
He gave his life in an attempt to retrieve urgent medical equipment needed to treat injured air raid casualties.
The hotels restaurants are also said to be having a name change, following up coming renovations.
