York Minster back on track financially
Although York Minster made a loss in excess of £800,000 last year, the Acting Dean of York, The Revd Canon Michael Smith, said “the tough decisions taken by Chapter in 2020, were vital in securing the cathedral’s future. Those decisions have put us on the right track”.
In 2021 over £1m was paid out to Minster staff in redundancy payments with visitor numbers 60% lower than those in 2019. The Minster school was closed to save overheads following a net deficit of 2.3m in 2020.
