A boat that will save many lives on York’s rivers has been named in memory of a young man who was described as an absolute joy. Sonny Ferry, from Rutland, was 19 when he died after entering the river Ouse following a night out in April 2019. The York Rescue Boat crew located his body two days later.
When Sonny’s parents, Kate, and Steve, met with the team to thank them, they pledged to buy a brand-new lifeboat. Their Sunshine Campaign raised an amazing £45,000 for a high-spec patrol and rescue boat which has been named Sonny.
