A York scientist has won an international award for work to tackle unnecessary animal testing. Dr Owen Kavanagh and his team at York St John University have this week been awarded the prestigious Lush Prize 2024 Major Science Collaboration Award in recognition of their efforts. The Lush Prize is the largest prize fund in the non-animal testing sector and supports initiatives to end or replace animal testing. Dr Owen Kavanagh has said that he believes it’s time to put an end to the bias in favour of animal-based methods in research as often non-animal methods are more suitable and ethical.
