York shortlisted to become the home of Great British Railways.
York has been shortlisted to become the home of Great British Railways. York city leaders submitted the bid back in March. The Government has announced that York along with Derby, Crewe, Birmingham, Doncaster and Newcastle upon Tyne are the cities shortlisted.
It is estimated that if the Great British Railway HQ was moved to York it would bring in an extra £110 million to York's economy and create 1,600 jobs. The public can choose online what City should win with the Transport Secretary making the final call later in the year.
