York Station receives £10.5 million in funding towards the Gateway Project

The current front of York Railway Station

The plans for York station’s new development have taken another big step forward.

The West Yorkshire Combined Authority has agreed for another £10.5 million to be put towards the revamp of the station’s Gateway project.

This means that work on the project can now begin.

The funding allows for the Queen Street Bridge to be demolished and a new road to be built, further away from the city walls.

The front of the station will also be reorganised to make the entrance to the city more welcoming, allowing better access for commuters and encouraging people to travel by foot, bicycle and public transport.

City of York Council said that arriving at, and using the station, will become simpler for everybody, introducing new public spaces and better showcasing the city’s heritage.
