The City of York Council has been informed by the Home Office that York has been chosen as one of the cities that will host asylum seekers during the winter.
The City of York Council has been informed by the Home Office that York has been chosen as one of the cities that will host asylum seekers during the winter.
The temporary, self catered housing will provide refugees increased warmth and shelter during the next few months, instead of tented accommodation that some are currently in.
The council will coordinate additional support for the families via York’s community and voluntary sector.
Councillor Darryl Smalley remains positive that “York stands ready to do its bit once more”.
