A Yorkshire-based Walkers potato farmer, Tim Rodwell, has helped the much-loved crisp brand turn around 30,000 potato crops into its ‘biggest’ and most unusual advertising campaign to date – by making a 73,532 square foot ‘cropvert’.
The artwork is so big that it outsizes the biggest billboard in the world (which stands at 67,382 square feet*).
The intricate design, which took a week to cut, was created using drones to mark out the precise shapes required, before hoeing the crop by hand to spell the message, ‘Great Taste Starts Here’ alongside the iconic outline of a packet of Walkers crisps.
The gesture is designed to celebrate the sustainably grown, 100% British potatoes used to make Walkers, Britain’s most loved crisps, and was created to mark the launch of the snack brand’s latest campaign, ‘We love potatoes, so you can love Walkers’
Rodwell was part of a small group of Walkers’ potato growers who pulled off the stunt just before the top-quality potatoes were harvested and sent off in pristine condition to be turned into a delicious packet of Walkers crisps. Using just hand tools, the team were also able to ensure no potatoes were harmed along the way.
