Midfielder Maziar Kouhyar has extended his stay with York City after signing a new two and a half-year contract with the Minstermen to keep him at the club until the summer of 2025.
The Afghanistan international is the latest player to commit his future to the club, following recent new deals for Nathan Thomas, Dan Pybus and Mitch Hancox which have been completed over the last few weeks.
The 25-year-old is nearing a return to action after an enforced spell on the sidelines with injury, but Kouhyar will look to help play a part in the club’s remaining games now we have entered the second half of the season.
He originally joined the club at the back end of last season and he went on to score the Minstermen’s second goal in May’s National League North playoff final victory against Boston United.
He also scored on the opening day of the season in City’s 2-0 win over Woking at the LNER Community Stadium and he will be looking to add to his goal tally over the next two and a half years with the club.
“I’m happy to get it over the line,” said Kouhyar after extending his deal with the Minstermen.
“It’s a club where I’ve really enjoyed my time and hopefully we can create more good memories like our promotion last year.
“Everything about the club, the stadium, the fans, the lads, the training. I just really like it here and I’m happy to extend for another two years.
“It’s a good place to develop. The league is a strong league with a lot of good teams and it’s good to put myself up against these kinds of players and teams.
“I feel like the more I play, the more I’ll improve, so that’s my goal for the next couple of years.”
Manager David Webb also expressed his delight as Maz put pen-to-paper with the club on a new deal.
“I am delighted that Maz has decided to extend his contract with us”, said Webb.
“He possesses good attacking attributes and is an exciting player that adds lots of variety to our forward options.
“We are looking forward to working with Maz and to see how far he can develop with us at York City FC.”
The deal is subject to FA and National League approval.
